Yoga for Health

Yoga promotes the health of the entire body. It exercises the muscles and joints, the heart and the lungs, and stimulates vital function of all the internal organs, including the digestive and reproductive systems. Yoga is a form of exercise for the whole of life. It provides a challenging, dynamic practice for the young; an energising, balancing practice for the middle of life; and a nurturing practice for the mature years.

Traditionally, yoga was practiced by yogis who lived a life of meditation in nature, far from cities and doctors. Yoga kept them fit and healthy, reducing their need for medical treatment. Practicing yoga today, we get the same benefits of vital health wherever we live.

Whatever we do, we must breathe to live. In Vinyasa Krama, the primary emphasis is on vital breathing. The postures work to expand our breath, and we use our breath to help our body move more fully into the postures. We learn to breathe deeply and with awareness, bringing in the fullness of life with every breath. We learn to take care of our own life force.
